What is the best processor?

It all depends on your needs and your budget, but typically, the best performing mobile processors are the Hexa Core (6 cores), Core i9-xxxx and Core i7-xxxx models with an H in their reference. The most common being the Core i7-9750H, now replaced by the Core i7-10750H.

The first Hexa Core for laptops was launched by Intel with the Coffee Lake models. From now on, the Quad Core (4 cores) – also powerful – are confined to the Core i5s. On a handful of models, it is now possible to find an octocore processor, the Core i9-9880H (which will soon be supplanted by the Core i7-10875H and the Core i9-10890HK). Often available as an option, such as the MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 15, Dell XPS 17 or MSI GS66, the prices of laptops with these 8-core processors are (very, too) high. It also often poses thermal dissipation problems and in practice offers performance very close to its hexacore counterparts. However, the situation could change in the coming months, AMD has been marketing its Ryzen 7 4800H (S) and Ryzen 9 4900H (S) processors since the spring of 2020, which offer very aggressive prices compared to their Intel counterparts while affording the luxury of being ahead of them (by a short head) in terms of performance. The only problem is that their distribution remains fairly confidential for the moment.

The Use of Quad Core

Since 2017, Quad Core processors have also been found on low-power platforms. Their reduced energy consumption allows them to be integrated into nomadic and thin machines such as Ultrabooks while offering performance capable of meeting the needs of many people. Of course, the H-series models retain the advantage for raw power, but for one-off calculations the difference with a low-power processor will hardly be visible. For more details, see our latest tests.

Note that AMD also offers low-power Quad Core processors, the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7

The performance rivals the low-power Intel Quad Core for the Ryzen 3000 series but they benefit from a more powerful graphics chip, which may be suitable. occasional gamers. The Ryzen 4000 whose marketing begins (June 2020) benefit from improved performance and thus regain the advantage over their competitors Intel.

What is the ranking of the most efficient processors?

Our price comparator displays the processors in order of power, the best performing being positioned at the top of the Range section.
